Yin-Yang Hot Pot (Handmade Brass)
Handmade to order for The Mala Market by artisans in China, this "yin yang" brass pot is the style used in upscale Sichuan hot pot restaurants and is also the perfect vessel for home hot pot, providing both superior heat conduction and modern style.
The streamlined design, brushed brass and "ear" handles provide both pleasing form and efficient function. The securely welded yin-yang divider separates the pot so it can be used for two different soups, which is popular in Chengdu and Chongqing style hot pot. One side is for the numbing and spicy mala broth and the other side is for a mild mushroom, herbal or bone broth.
The pot's bottom is lined on the underside with induction-compatible magnetic steel, so it can be used on induction or gas heat sources. The soup bowl has a diameter of 13 inches, and each side of the pot holds 6-7 cups of soup broth. Considered a medium pot, it comfortably serves 4 people and is recommended for up to 6 people.
Note that since this pot is handmade, there may be some imperfections, including visible welding of the divider along the inside bottom of the bowl and "shadows" on the inside where the handles are attached on the outside. After patina forms with use, these surface anomalies will be barely visible. Please see photos 2 and 3 before purchase.
Brass is all about the warm patina of a used pot. Made from food-grade brass, this pot is not treated or lacquered and will acquire a patina quickly. Especially after it interacts with hot pot soup, it will gain a darker-hued palette, a color that many prefer, though it can be brightened with metal cleaner.
Filled with soup and set over a fire, this pot becomes a richly glowing centerpiece for a special celebration with friends and family.
