December 2020: The Gift of Chinese Cooking

The Gift of Chinese Cooking

Greetings, Friends of The Mala Market!

Give the gift of home-cooked Chinese meals this season. Maybe you've learned to cook real Sichuan food yourself and want to share that discovery with family and friends by providing them with all the things they need to get started. Just in time, our super popular Sichuan pantry collections are back in stock!

We've also added two new pantry collections this season for other Western China cuisines in what we call the Sichuan Pepper Belt. Our new Yunnan and Xi'an pantry collections include eye-opening cookbooks for those cuisines along with their most-used ingredients.

Or perhaps you just want to introduce someone to a new flavor sensation you know they will love, such as the ultimate Chinese soy sauce, a handy Sichuan pepper grinder or tingly Sichuan chili oil. Keep reading for our holiday gift ideas for all the food lovers in your life, even those who don't cook.

Don't forget the unusually early shipping deadlines this year. We will be taking orders through Sunday, Dec. 13, for delivery by Christmas. Orders placed after that cannot be promised to arrive on time, according to carriers' schedules.

This is most likely the last time you will hear from us this year, so we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sticking with us in 2020. We hope we've added a little spice to your stay-at-home life.

Feeling grateful,

🌶Taylor & Fongchong 🌶

Xi'an is almost as famous for its heavily Muslim-influenced, sour-spicy food as it is for the Terracotta Warriors. A large part of the credit for that food fame in the U.S. goes to Xi'an Famous Foods, a Flushing, Queens, food stall made famous by Anthony Bourdain and later expanded to outlets across NYC. We have very limited stock of this collection because the publisher quickly sold out of this highly anticipated new cookbook.

If you love both Sichuanese and Vietnamese food, then you will also fall in love with Yunnan cuisine, which resembles Sichuan in flavorings such as ground chilies, Sichuan pepper, black vinegar and pickles and Southeast Asia in its herbs, rice noodles and grilled foods. This gorgeous cookbook reveals the cuisine in all its delicious diversity.
